bring hat, sunscreen and water if sunny; parking available adjacent to site.

Plant
Propagation at the Native Plant Nursery
|
Description: Learn to propagate and care for native plants, manage
gardens/preserves, pruning, staff plant sales and more
When: Usually Friday mornings and by arrangement
Where: CSUDH
Native Plant Nursery and other sites on campus
Who can volunteer: CSUDH/ El Camino College students,
faculty, staff and community volunteers.
Age 16 and older.
Other Notes: great way to learn about native plants; fun, committed volunteer group; contact us for information.

Hello fellow Phi Sigma
members and friends!
Just a reminder that our Gamma Tau chapter has an ongoing partnership with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy doing habitat restoration for the Palos Verdes Blue butterfly (Glaucopsyche lygdamus palosverdesensis). It is listed as a federally endangered species and it's one of the TEN RAREST BUTTERFLIES IN THE WORLD! Some agencies list it as the rarest-the wild population is estimated at only 300 individuals. Once thought extinct, it was rediscovered in 1994 at the exact site we help out at,The Defense Fuel Support Point (DFSP) in San Pedro. This is a really great opportunity to get some conservation and habitat restoration experience while helping out an extremely rare species that exists right here in our local area!
We currently work on Friday mornings from 7:30 am until 10:30 am, rain or shine. There is an onsite native plant nursery that we help out in when it rains.
There is plenty to do and all levels of physical activity can be accommodated. If outside work isn't your thing, there are tons of seeds and plants to help out with in the nursery. It is a friendly and casual environment and you do not need to be a member of Phi Sigma to come along and help - so you can pass this along and bring your friends and family too! We will be continuing to work on Fridays over the holiday break and next semester too.
